Fuel ethanol

Fuel ethanol (or bioethanol, as it is called in Europe) is alcohol produced from sugars that are extracted from starch crops (i.e. corn, wheat), sugar crops (i.e. sugar beet, sugar cane) or lignocellulosic biomass (i.e. fibers, straw). The alcohol is used as transport fuel and commonly serves as a replacement for gasoline, although it can also be used in modified diesel engines.
Several blends are provided (such as E85, E5 and other)

Road transport must be addressed immediately in order to seriously combat global climate change. While biofuels are not the only answer, they are an effective solution and provide a vital means for tackling this issue in the short term.
